The United States of America is a Presidential Federal Republic, comprising 50 statesand one Federal District. Most of the United States is located in central North America, owning three land borders, two with Canada and with Mexico, and the rest of the countrybordering the Pacific Ocean, the Arctic Ocean and the Ocean Atlantic. Of the 50 states,only Alaska and Hawaii are not contiguous with the other 48 states or among themselves. United States also possesses several territories, possessions and otherdistricts around the world.

The United States celebrated its Independence Day on July 4, 1776, when the ThirteenColonies in British North America adopted the Declaration of Independence, rejectedBritish authority in favor of self-determination. This independence was officiallyrecognized by Britain in the Treaty of Paris. The United States adopted its current Constitution in 1789 that conducts com the basic structure of American government.Since then, the nation gradually developed, becoming a global superpower after the endof World War II, rising to exercise great influence in the world.
